Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina’s national team, has picked Brazil and France as the clear favorites to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in the Gulf State of Qatar.
Despite expressing that he would like to win the golden trophy, Lionel Messi chose record-holders Brazil and two-time World Champions France as the favorites in an interview with Argentine outlet DIRECTV.
He said that Spain, England, and Germany may all win the 2022 World Cup as well.
“There are big teams like Brazil, Germany, France, England, and Spain. But if I have to keep one or two, today I think Brazil and France are the two big candidates for this World Cup.”
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, who represented Argentina in the previous four World Cups, previously declared that the 2022 tournament in Qatar would be his final appearance in the Mundial.
Lionel Messi won the silver medal at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil after making 19 appearances, scoring six goals and dishing out five assists. Argentina lost the championship game 1-0 to Germany.
