Salis Abdul Samed, Samuel Owusu, Jeffery Schlupp, and Majeed Asimeru are all a part of the Black Stars’ preliminary 55-man roster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The group is among many players, including Callum Hudson-Odoi of Bayer Leverkusen, who is a member of the technical team’s pre-tournament squad as the competition draws nearer.
Schlupp last appeared for Ghana in the Black Stars’ 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory against Ethiopia in September 2021. The talented midfielder has been absent from the squad ever since, claiming personal issues.
He is expected to rejoin the national squad, though, following discussions with the player and his entourage by the Ghana Football Association and the technical team.
Hudson-Odoi could play for the Black Stars in Qatar as he is also listed in Ghana’s provisional roster, which may not seem like a shocking inclusion. For some time now, Ghana has had their eye on the winger, who might now actually make the team.
Salis is also included in the team due to his outstanding 2022–23 campaign thus far after joining Lens in the summer. He had previously stated in an interview that he was available to play for the national team.
The tentative team that the Black Stars plan to submit includes both Ashimeru of Anderlecht and Samuel Owusu of the Serbian league.
All of the players who were called up for the Black Stars’ recent matches against Brazil and Nicaragua are also included on the list.
