Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets U17 squad defeated Burkina Faso U17 team 2-1 to win the 2022 WAFU Zone B U17 Championship and claim the title of champions.
The two young national teams qualified for the final after rightly dominating as the two top teams from the competition’s outset.
In addition to beating Burkina Faso in Group B, Burkina Faso also won Group A in the Ghana-hosted competition, which allowed them to progress to the semi-finals.
The Nigeria U17 team and Burkina Faso squared off in today’s final at the Cape Coast Stadium, which was lit by floodlights.
The first half of the match was very exciting for the spectators and ended 1-1 at the break.
Nigeria scored a second goal in the opening five minutes of the second half thanks to a mistake by the Burkina Faso goalkeeper.
Nigeria has been named the winners of the 2022 WAFU Zone B U17 Championship after Burkina Faso was unable to score the necessary equalizer to get back into the game.
In the third-place match, Ghana defeated Ivory Coast 3-2 and went home with the bronze medal whiles Burkina Faso went with Silver.
