Salisu Yusuf, the head coach of the Nigerian CHAN Super Eagles, blamed the referee’s soft penalty in the 48th minute for his team’s loss to the Black Galaxies.
In the first leg of the final qualification matches for the 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN), which would be hosted in Algeria, the Black Galaxies defeated Nigeria 2-0.
For Annor Walker’s team to enter the second league with a significant advantage, a penalty from Daniel Afriyie Barnieh in the 49th minute and a goal from Seidu Suraj in the 86th minute were sufficient.
Coach Salisu, meanwhile, is of the opinion that his team was adversely impacted by the “soft” penalty that set the tone for Ghana’s victory following a scoreless first half.
“The penalty was really a big blow to my team because there was a commotion there. The referee was a little bit harsh on that penalty and that got our players arguing.”
“We tried to come back, created some moments and we still fought and so I think is football so we will work hard to see how we can consider two goals in Nigeria,” Salisu said.
On September 3, 2022, in Abuja, Nigeria will welcome Ghana to the Moshood Abiola Stadium for the rematch.
