This year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, highlife song nominee, Epixode on Thursday exclusively revealed on the Max Morning Show/89.7FM that he is confident of grabbing two awards out of the four nominations.
Speaking to host Babiee Dappah, the versatile artist, stated categorically he is bent on winning the ‘highlife song of the year’ and ‘best collaboration’ categories.
Epixode ahead of the release of his latest song titled ‘Obra’, touched on the documentary which preceded the making the song on the show and applauded the
BBC’s documentary on Hiplife in Ghana for an excellent blue on creative artworks, especially on Ghanaian music.
“If you go on YouTube, you would barely find any written history on Highlife or our old sounds. It was just recently that the BBC had to document Hiplife. Even with that, I feel like they could’ve done more because we have legends alive who did Hiplife. They can actually tell the story than rather than interviewing the new artists.”
When asked on his genre of music, the budding young star revealed he did himself a disservice when he identified himself as a Reggae and Dancehall artist during the genesis of his career.
“I did myself harm growing up trying to tag myself as a Reggae and Dancehall artist. There’s much more I can offer apart from Reggae and Dancehall, but I am looking at it. I don’t want to be boxed in that space.” He added.
In what may seem as if blowing his own horn, Epixode disclosed that he is part of those who rekindled people’s love for highlife with his hit ‘Atia’ song.
The award-winning artist disclosed his intention to release a dancehall song this year on the show.
