The inaugural match of the 2022 CHAN tournament, which is taking place in Algeria, saw the Lions of Teranga from Senegal defeat the Elephants of Côté d’Ivoire.
The Green and Yellows team defeated the Oranges on Saturday night in the inaugural match, winning 1-0 to take the lead in Group B.
The Ivorians had a strong start to the game and produced some decent chances, but they did not take advantage of all of their favorable possibilities.
Senegal warmed up for the match, but despite having a larger share of possession in the final 15 minutes of the first half, they were unable to truly create significant openings.
The second half of the game turned into a Ding Dong battle as both teams again threatened to score the opening goal.
In the second part of the game, Senegal missed the post and their opponents as well.
Senegal was given a penalty shot, but they were unable to score. Instead, Moussa Ndiaye capitalized on a loose ball in the area after a free kick to score the game’s lone goal and give Senegal a 1-0 victory over the Ivory Coast.
Senegal now holds the top slot after the victory, with the first game between Congo DR and Uganda ending in a scoreless draw.
