The late former Chelsea and Newcastle United winger has been referred to be the most brilliant player of their generation by former Black Stars midfielder, Derek Boateng.
During the one-week commemoration of the late football player held at the Adjiringanor Astroturf Park in Accra, Derek Boateng referred to Christian Atsu as the Abedi Pele of their generation.
After senior sports journalist Karl Tuffour’s declaration that the late Christian Atsu was the most talented player the nation has produced since the legendary Abedi Ayew Pele, Boateng made the same claim.
“I remember his first call-up to the national team I was there when he came to training at the Accra Sports Stadium.”
“His first touch in training amazed me and I thought that we had found the next Abedi Pele instantly,” Derek Boateng said.
Christian Atsu’s body was found in the rubble precisely two weeks after the deadly earthquake that struck the southeast of Turkey and Syria, on Saturday, March 4, 2023.
Prior to his passing, Christian Atsu played 65 times for the Black Stars after making his debut in a 2012 international exhibition match against Lesotho at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
