James Nanor, a former goalkeeper and trainer for Hearts of Oak, puts a great deal of faith in Ghana’s Black Stars’ goalie trainer, Fatawu Dauda, to help the goalkeepers on the team play better.
As part of a series of changes brought about after the team’s underwhelming performance at the 2023 AFCON, Ghana’s men senior national team selected Fatawu Dauda as head goalkeepers trainer.
He took over the position from scandal-plagued Richard Kingson when Otto Addo was named substantive head coach of the team.
Nanor says the nation has always produced good goalkeepers and is confident in the current group of goalies under Dauda.
“I can say we have great goalkeepers, and we should exercise patience for Fatawu. He will get the job done. He selects the right goalkeepers for the team. Let’s not rush or put pressure on him. All the players are consistent at their clubs. He will improve them.”
Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Joseph Joojo Wollacot were chosen by Fatawu to start in the international friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda, respectively, despite the fact that both players let up two goals apiece.
