There were high expectations for 28 year old Nadia Eke ahead of the Women’s Triple Jump event on Friday 30th July.
However, after three straight illegal jumps, Ghana’s flagbearer during last week’s opening ceremony, became the fifth athlete to exit the Games.
The Tokyo Olympic Stadium which ushered her and Team Ghana to loud cheers and bright smiles seemed a dark theatre for the 2016 Africa triple jump Queen.
Nadia recorded an X on her first, second, and third attempts after stepping on the red line or failing to take off correctly.
At this stage it is unclear whether or not the Columbia University graduate will be on the Athletics circuit to compete regularly next season or will take a temporary break.
One thing is certain, her once sparkling form which led her to win the 2016 African title may have been affected by limited competitions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
