According to Francisca Ashitey-Odunton, Ghana’s ambassador to Turkey, all Ghanaians at the earthquake’s epicenter have been found with the exception of footballer Christian Atsu.
Christian Atsu, who had become caught in the earthquake-related disaster in Turkey, was reportedly retrieved from the ruins on Tuesday.
After being saved, the player appears to be lost, according to sources on Wednesday.
In an interview with an Accra-based FM station, the Ghanaian ambassador to Turkey claimed that the Ghana Embassy had been able to get in touch with some of the people who were in the area when the disaster struck.
She bemoaned the fact that Christian Atsu was the only Ghanaian whose whereabouts in Turkey were still unknown.
“I’m glad and thankful to let you know that, apart from Christian Atsu, all Ghanaians have been accounted for. We don’t have many people in the area, and most of them were students,” Francisca Ashitey-Odunton said.
“Our hope and intention for today are to evacuate them to Ankara and Turkey because as of now they are at a makeshift structure which is pretty good. What we are doing now is trying to evacuate them so that we can take care of them,” she added.
