Asamoah Gyan , a former Ghana captain and current player for Legon Cities, claims he still wants to play for Ghanaian giants Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
Last season, former Sunderland ace Asamoah Gyan passed up the opportunity to achieve a childhood goal by joining Legon Cities instead of Asante Kotoko.
Kotoko had been in discussions with Ghana’s all-time best scorer, Asamoah Gyan, but were unable to strike a deal with him before he chose Legon Cities.
He was hampered by injuries and a loss of form at Legon Cities, and he scarcely played any football for the team before the season finished.
However, Asamoah Gyan, at 36 years old, insists that if he ever plays football again, it will be for Asante Kotoko.
In an interview with an Accra-based FM station, he expressed his desire to wear the Kotoko shirt since he is a fan.
“I would like to play for Asante Kotoko if I have to return [to playing football again]. I am a huge fan of the club,” Gyan said.
He left Legon Cities in October of last year and has been without a club since.
With 51 goals, the former Al Ain striker is Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, and with 7 goals at the World Cup, he is the best scoring African.
Gyan has scored almost 200 goals for clubs in the United Arab Emirates, including Udinese, Sunderland, Rennes, and Al Ain.
