Elmina Sharks FC and Real Tamale United drew at the Nduom Sports Complex on Sunday in their Ghana Premier League (GPL) matchday 26 match.
The ‘Botwekumba’ had to come back from a goal down to get a point, as they failed to advance in their fight against relegation. They are still at the bottom of the league standings.
At the very least, RTU will be satisfied with the draw, which ends their eight-game losing record on the road. They have also risen one point above the drop zone as a result of the draw.
Sharks coach Kobina Amissah made only one change to the team that drew 1-1 with Hearts of Oak in the previous round at the Accra Sports Stadium.
For this match, Dominic Eshun was preferred over Emmanuel Adjetey in the starting lineup.
RTU coach Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko made two changes to his team that defeated Asante Kotoko SC in Tamale last week, including the introduction of talisman David Abagna Sandan to the starting lineup.
Abagna had been out for about two months due to an injury he acquired in January during the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon. His most recent appearance came in December of last year.
Kwame Boakye was replaced by the captain, and Rashid Alhassan was replaced by Samuel Bawa in the starting eleven.
Victor Oduro’s second goal of the season gave the Pride of the North an early lead in the fifth minute.
The lead lasted only 9 minutes before Sharks equalized by Isaac Donkor in the 14th minute of the contest.
In the second half, both teams attempted to score the game-winning goal, but none of their efforts were successful.
