Despite not being in the dugout for the Super Clash, Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder Eric Esso has reaffirmed that Serbian manager Slavko Matic is still their head coach.
Following the protest by the fans at the club’s training facilities on Friday, March 3, 2023, the Accra Hearts of Oak administration asked the Serbian manager to leave for the Super Clash match against Asante Kotoko.
Taking over in Matic’s absence, assistant coach David Ocloo defeated Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium in the matchday 20 match thanks to a goal from Konadu Yiadom in the 56th minute.
However, Eric Esso, who led Hearts of Oak against Asante Kotoko, has claimed that Matic is still in his position despite reports to the contrary.
“It’s not easy but as coach Matic is at home, he communicates. He has never stepped down, he is still the head coach,” Eric Esso said.
After defeating rival Asante Kotoko on matchday 20, which served as the President’s Cup in honor of Akufo-Addo, Accra Hearts of Oak are now fourth in the 2022/2023 Ghana Premier League.
The Phobian’s following match is against Gold Stars on matchday 21 at Bibiani Park.
