BetPawa Ghana Premier League heavyweights Accra Hearts of Oak SC lost loss on the road in their season opener of the 2022-23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season.

In their round one match against Aduana Stars FC on Sunday afternoon at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Dormaa, the Phobians were defeated on the road.

The Phobians had a fast start to the game in the early exchanges, but as the home team became more involved, they were unable to score.

The Phobians nevertheless had a fantastic opportunity to strike first and break the tie of the game to put themselves in lead, but youngster Baafi Amankwah fluffed his line with the open net yearning for the ball.

The youthful player once more wasted Hearts of Oak’s opportunity to stay in the game, giving the home team some encouragement.

Bright Adjei nearly scored the game’s first goal at the end of the field, but his shot missed the goal posts by a narrow margin.

Dennis Nkrumah Korsah, a former captain of Cape Coast Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs FC, came close to scoring for Hearts but his close-range shot struck the crossbar.

There were numerous poor tackles from both teams in the first half, which finished without a goal.

Aduana Stars ultimately broke the scoreless tie four minutes into the second half of the game when captain Bright Adjei connected superbly from close range on a cross after the Phobians’ poor defense.

Hearts put in a valiant effort to score the equalizer, but they were unable.

Caleb Amankwah was later ejected from the game, leaving the opposition with just 10 players.

As they did against the Rainbow Boys last year, Aduana held their ground to defeat Hearts of Oak SC 1-0.

In the upcoming round of Ghana Premier League games, Hearts of Oak SC will play city rival Accra Great Olympics FC, while Aduana Stars will travel to face King Faisal in Kumasi.
