On matchday 15 of the ongoing 2022/2023 Ghana Premier League (GPL), Accra Hearts of Oak were held to a scoreless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium by 10-man Legon Cities earlier today.
After defeating Medeama 1-0 in Tarkwa’s Akoon Park, the Phobians entered the game full of confidence, but they were unable to extend their winning streak.
Although Legon Cities had the advantage throughout the game, Eric Osei Bonsu and Michael Etou failed to take advantage of the half-chances they produced in the opening 10 minutes.
Obeng Jnr was set up by Linda Ntange for Hearts of Oak’s first opportunity in the 13th minute, but the striker’s effort was insufficiently potent to beat goalkeeper Slyvester Sackey.
Both Eric Osei Bonsu and Linda Ntange missed free kicks from the spot before halftime, which was unfortunate for both teams.
After Nii Bortey was dismissed for a tackle on Kwadwo Obeng Jr. as the final player standing between the Phobian and his goalkeeper in the second half, Hearts of Oak gained the numerical advantage.
Hearts of Oak had the numerical advantage, but they were unable to capitalize on it because of their attackers’ wastefulness, which allowed Legon Cities to win the match by one point.
Out of the 15 games played so far this season, the Phobians have drawn seven. They have 25 points, which puts them in third place.
Due to King Faisal’s 3-2 loss to Medeama SC at home, Legon Cities have now climbed the ladder to the 14th spot with 18 points.
