At Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday, Hearts of Oak defeated Kotoku Royals to earn their second victory of the year.
The Slavko Matic men’s squad entered the game with a lot of confidence after ending their losing skid against Bibiani GoldStars in Accra last weekend. They added another victory to move into the top half of the standings.
The game-winning goal was scored in the 31st minute from the penalty spot by Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, who emerged as the hero.
The striker, who has distinguished himself as one of Ghana’s top penalty takers, was fouled by Royals goalkeeper Clinton Quaye, therefore it was no surprise that he decided to take the spot.
A member of Ghana’s preliminary World Cup roster of 55 players in Qatar, Barnieh made a clutch conversion to give the Phobians three points.
As a result of the club’s dismal start, Samuel Boadu was sacked, and replacement coach Matic has already won two games in a row.
Fans will be hoping that Matic keeps up his recent fine form as they strive for their second league championship in three years.
Kotoku Royals’ losing streak has already reached four games as a result of the most recent loss, and they are certain to finish the weekend in the relegation zone.
