League Leaders Asante Kotoko in their matchup with Legon Cities on Match Day 7 of the betPawa Premier League on Wednesday at the Baba Yara Sports stadium, drew 1-1 with Legon Cities after conceding a goal in the second half.
With victories over Samartex FC and Medeama SC in their previous two games, the Porcupine Warriors entered the match in strong form and appeared ready to extend their winning streak.
Steven Mukwala’s goal for the Champions in the 13th minute of the first half gave them the lead. The Ugandan forward had a wonderful opportunity to score but was impeded in the box, and the referee correctly pointed to the spot to award Asante Kotoko a penalty.
The reds gained control of the game after that and produced a number of good chances, but their carelessness in front of goal ultimately cost them the game as they entered halftime with a small lead.
After returning from a break, Legon Cities attacked down the channels and were promptly rewarded with a goal by Mohammed Sadat in the 49th minute.
With the host team attempting to score the second goal, the two teams started to move cautiously. Mohammed Suleman made a tremendous goal-line clearance in the 73rd minute to prevent Asante Kotoko from grabbing the lead twice. Throughout the last few minutes of play, the host applied pressure, but Legon Cities defended valiantly to steal a point from their opponent.
