Henry Asante Twum, the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Head of Communications, claims that Asante Kotoko has no authority to order the GFA to halt the league until they play Ashantigold SC.
The miners were scheduled to play Kotoko on Thursday, but the Ghana Football Association (GFA) postponed the match owing to security concerns late Wednesday night.
The reds, who had arrived in Obuasi before of the game on Thursday, expressed their disappointment with the late postponement and demanded that the GFA reimburse them for the money spent on the cancelled match.
Kotoko also insisted that no other game in the Ghana Premier League(GPL) be played until their match against the miners on Match Day 29 is honored.
Speaking in an interview, Asante Twum reiterated that no club has the power to dictate to the FA as to how it should run the league and has rejected calls from Asante Kotoko to postpone the league until they honor their game against Ashantigold.
He highlighted that all matches will be honored throughout the weekend, adding that Kotoko’s match against Berekum Chelsea would be played regardless of their request for a postponement.
“I do not want to place a premium on this letter and whatever they are asking for because they do not have the right to determine when games are played, no club has that right.”
He also stated that even when Hearts of Oak claimed to have been infected with a weird sickness before their game against Bibiani Gold Stars, the game was not postponed since the club was unable to give proof of their claims when the FA required it.
“When Hearts of Oak reported to us that they had some strange illness on players we asked them for further and better particulars unfortunately they couldn’t provide for which reason they went ahead to play against Bibiani Gold Stars.
He stated that aside from the General Secretary, who has the authority to decide whether or not a game would be played, no other person or club has the authority to decide when a game should be played, and so Kotoko’s request will be rejected.
“So, they (Kotoko) cannot tell us to postpone the league, they don’t have that power. The only office that has that power is the General Secretary”, he noted.
