Ishmael Addo, a fantastic player for Accra Hearts of Oak, has talked about how difficult it is to see his former team compete on the African continent after their dismal performance.
The three-time top scorer in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) claims that he and his teammates’ conquest of Africa in the early 2000s helped to elevate Hearts of Oak to a pedestal.
He complained that it hurts him greatly to see the club regress after all the effort put into it.
“It’s painful to watch Hearts of Oak play in Africa these days,” Ishmael Addo said in an interview.
“It’s really painful because you sit back after putting the team up there. You left with the idea that they would be better than where you actually put the team but you realize that the team keeps coming down and dropping.
“Even though we had our time and left, we still have something towards the team, we still have this passion, we still want the team to achieve better than what we achieved but now they are taking a step backwards,” he added.
Hearts of Oak have lost all three of their CAF interclub competition games while giving up 13 goals.
In the CAF Confederations Cup on Saturday, AS Bamako destroyed the Phobians 3-0 on the road.
On October 16, Hearts of Oak will host AS Bamako in Accra for the second leg.
