Former Asante Kotoko captain and defender Joe Hendrick believes it is premature to compare top scorer Frank Mbella to the legendary Ishmael Addo in the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
The Cameroonian international has been in excellent form for the porcupine warriors in his debut season, scoring 21 goals and needing only one more to equal Ishmael Addo’s record of 22 goals in the Ghana Premier League(GPL).
In the 2001 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season, Ishmael Addo scored 22 goals to help the Phobians win the treble, and he was named Golden Boot winner.
Joe Hendricks believes it is too early to compare Frank Mbella to the Hearts of Oak great since the Cameroonian needs to do it consistently and fight the best in Africa.
He urged for restraint in an interview with an Accra-based FM station, saying that such comparisons are premature.
“Mbella is a good striker but he’s yet to meet quality defenders on the continent. It’s too early to compare him to Ishmael Addo who was consistent for Hearts of Oak for more than six seasons,” Joe Hendricks said.
Mbella has two matches left to break Ishmael Addo’s Ghana Premier League (GPL) record.
