Tano Bofoakwa has returned to the top flight after being out in the wilderness for 16 years, 1 month, and 1 day, by beating Techiman Eleven Wonders 7-6 on penalties. The Accra Sports Stadium hosted the Bono playoff derby as fans of both sides traveled from far and near to witness the historic encounter.
Leslie Aryeetey sent Tano Bofoakwa in front from the penalty spot in the 8th minute after Eleven Wonder goalkeeper, Sulemana Adamu Rashid collided with Enoch Abuu, just three minutes into the game.
Tano Bofoakwa failed to extend their lead after scoring the first goal as they managed to create three clear-cut chances before the end of the first half. Eleven Wonders lacked the quality to find an equalizer in the first half.
With the second half just starting, Hamza Mohammed ran to the flag and delivered a beautiful cross which was met with an equally beautiful header by Osman Zackaria to get Techiman Eleven Wonders level.
After extra time, the match remained tied and eventually came to a head with penalty kicks. Osman Zackaria stepped forward with the chance to send his side into the BetPawa Premier League but had his effort saved by Emmanuel Kobi. Tano Bofoakwa’s goalie was the hero of the day as he saved the final penalty to book a ticket for his side to the top level of the football pyramid in Ghana.
Tano Bofoakwa joins Kpando Hearts of Lions and Nations FC as new members in the 2023/24 BetPawa Premier League season.
