Veteran Ghanaian coach, Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong, has revealed to Max FM that whenever the management of Great Olympics failed to pay his salary on time during his stint with the Dade Boys, he ate roasted corn and groundnut (Abele k3 Nkatie) to survive.
According to the experienced gaffer, Olympics, as a traditional team, is the third most cherished football club in Ghana behind Hearts and Kotoko when it comes to support base in the country.
The Dade Boys usually find themselves in positions like this whenever the league is coming to an end, so the 2022–23 situation is nothing different, but this time around they had the best sponsorship compared to the past, so you can’t say it is financial crises that are keeping Olympics in the bottom three.
” Olympics is not a team you join to make money.” “They don’t have that money but would make you popular in terms of performance,” he told Max FM.
“There was a time they (the Olympics) were not paying us (the technical team) . I was at Accra Academy then and training at Kaajano. The boys would buy roasted corn and groundnuts (Abele K3 Nkatie). Then I joined them in eating just to enforce camaraderie.” He added
Currently on the Ghana Premier League ladder, Great Olympics are placed 17th with 35 points with just five matches to go.
