Gospel artiste Selena Boateng has stated that musicians whose crafts are less patronised outside Ghana are unpopular.
Her claim follows the rising trend of events organised by local musicians in foreign countries which sees less or no patronage.
Speaking exclusively on Max Morning Dew in Accra on Tuesday, Selena Boateng said people patronise musicians they were eager to meet and not any artiste at all.
“When they know your name and have heard so much about you, they run to witness your show but if you’re not famous to them, how do you expect them to pay to come to your concert?” she queried.
For the gospel musicians, Selena admitted they have more advantage over the circular artistes as most of their shows were held in churches.
“The pastors announce to the congregation about the show and the artiste headlining the programme so most of the congregation will listen to their pastor to attend and support the event,” she stated.
However, Selina Boateng, noted that the success of the show centred mostly on the fame of the headlined artiste as that would whet the appetite of the congregation to patronise the show.
