Iranian rapper Toomaj Salehi has been sentenced to death for supporting anti-hijab protests.
The Isfahan Revolutionary Court sentenced the rapper, who has been jailed for close to two years over his support of the demonstrations that sparked the demise of Masha Amini in 2022 after she was detained for wearing an improper hijab.
The court accused Salehi, who was arrested in October 2022, of “assistance in sedition, assembly and collusion, propaganda against the system, and calling for riots.”
His attorney, Amir Raisian, has said the rapper “will certainly appeal against the sentence.”
The news of his sentence has caused a global uproar, with the likes of American rapper, Meek Mill calling for his release.
