His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana, at Anwomaso, in the Ashanti Region, commissioned the first phase of the Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant (K1TPP).
He also called on the private sector to capitalize on the government’s initiatives in the power sector to promote economic growth in the region.
“It is my expectation that these enterprises would expand and offer further employment opportunities to our youth,” President Akufo-Addo said at the commissioning yesterday.
The President expressed that the commissioning was a manifestation of the government’s conscious effort to provide sustainable electricity for the country.
Kofi Tutu Agyare, the Board Chairman of the Volta Regional Authority (VRA), thanked the Overlord of the Asante land, His Imperial Majesty, Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the leadership of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for the Anwomaso land being used for the project.
The K1TPP, formerly the Ameri Power Plant, was moved to the Asahnti Region to ensure constant provision of power to the middle and northern parts of Ghana.
