It gives Nottingham Forest great pleasure to announce the signing of André Ayew, the captain of Ghana.
Following his recent departure from Al Sadd, the forward joins on a free transfer and has agreed to a contract that runs through the end of the current campaign.
During his tenure on Trentside, André will don the number 42 on his shirt.
“It feels amazing to join for Nottingham Forest,” André Ayew said.
“I know how big the club is and I know how much the club means to the city and the fanbase. It’s always been difficult whenever I’ve played against Forest and at The City Ground and I love the stadium.
“Steve Cooper is someone who knows me very well and knows how to work with me both on and off the pitch. We have a strong relationship, he’s a special coach and a special human being and someone who I really look up to.”
“I know what I can bring to the team, I’m ready to give my all and make sure that we are able to stay in the Premier League.”
Ayew, 33, and Steve Cooper were teammates at Swansea City, where Ayew scored 35 goals in 84 games while playing for the Welshman’s club.
Ayew, the captain of Ghana’s national team, has played in 113 international matches overall. He was the first Ghanaian player to play in the last three World Cups and scored in their opening group stage match against Portugal thanks to his participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Ayew, a French native, rose through the ranks at Marseille, where he spent nine years and scored 60 goals in 209 appearances.
In June 2015, he made the switch to the Premier League and joined Swansea. During his first stint at the Liberty Stadium, he made 35 appearances and recorded 12 goals and five assists.
Ayew joined West Ham United the following summer in a then-club-record deal, and he went on to make 50 appearances in all competitions for the London club.
In January 2018, Ayew returned to Swansea for a club-record sum, and in 106 games for the Welsh team, he added 35 more goals.
Ayew joined Al Sadd in July 2021 and helped them win the Qatar Stars League title in their first season by scoring 15 goals in 21 league games.
The seasoned forward, who scored 22 goals in 39 appearances for Al Sadd before leaving Qatar, now joins The Reds after moving back to England.
