The Black Stars player’s family met with members from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Sports Ministry to discuss the funeral rites for the man who perished in the Turkey-Syria earthquake on February 6, 2023. Christian Atsu was a legendary player in Ghanaian football.
Atsu’s passing will be remembered there for a week starting on March 4, 2023, on Saturday. The decision was taken following extensive discussion among the family, GFA, and the Sports Ministry.
Evans Bobie, the deputy minister of sports, offered condolences to Atsu’s family on behalf of the GFA and the sports ministry.
The football player’s remains were moved to Ghana on February 19, 2023, from Turkey, where he died in a 7.8-magnitude earthquake that caused destruction and deaths.
In Turkey, Atsu and others were killed when an 11-story building caved in on them. His lifeless body was discovered among the debris.
The late football player was successful for both his club and the United States team. Among other teams, he had periods with Chelsea, FC Porto, Everton, and Newcastle United.
The GFA, the Sports Ministry, and other football-related individuals have expressed their condolences to Atsu’s family and friends and promised to support them in any way they can during this tough time.
