After meetings with Ghana Football Association [GFA] authorities in Germany, former Ghana international Otto Addo has accepted to become the new Black Stars coach, our sources can authoritatively disclose.
Otto Addo was a member of Milovan Rajevac’s technical squad, which was sacked following Ghana’s dismal performance in the Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in Cameroon in 2021.
For the first time in 2006, Ghana exited the 33rd edition of Africa’s most prestigious competition at the group stage.
According to our sources, Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku traveled to Germany with former Ghana international Tony Baffoe and technical director Bernhard Lippert to negotiate with Addo over the Black Stars coaching position.
Otto Addo has accepted to take up the Black Stars post following conversations, but he has requested that the Ghana FA undertake talks with Borussia Dortmund about their plan to appoint him as a national team coach.
Meanwhile, the Ghanaian government is pressing for Chris Hughton to be named as the team’s head coach.
On Monday, the administration conducted a meeting at Jubilee House, and the former Premier League coach was guaranteed of his position.
Otto Addo, on the other hand, was unable to participate in the AFCON owing to his commitments with a German club.
Otto Addo was a member of the Black Stars team that qualified the country for its first Fifa World Cup participation in Germany in 2006.
Ibrahim Tanko, Maxwell Konadu, and Annor Walker will aid Otto Addo.
The Black Stars’ next international match is against Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup playoffs, which will take place in March of this year.
The victor of the two-legged tie will earn a spot in next year’s Mundial in Qatar. Ghana will be looking to make up for missing out on the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
