After losing in the group stage of his most recent competition with the Belgian national team, Real Madrid star Eden Hazard has put an end to his international football career.
At age 31, the captain of Belgium has called time on a 14-year international career.
A page changes today, Hazard said in an Instagram post to break the news.
“A page turns today… Thank you for your love. Thank you for your unparalleled support. Thank you for all this happiness shared since 2008. I have decided to put an end to my international career. The succession is ready. I will miss you.”
For Belgium, Hazard made 126 appearances, recording 33 goals and 36 assists.
Despite not being able to help Belgium advance, he was instrumental in their historic third-place finish at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
In Group F of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Belgium came in third behind Croatia and group winner Morocco, failing to live up to expectations.
