The Ghanaian giants have been hailed as the best club in the world by Hearts of Oak’s new coach, Slavko Matic.
The Serbian replaces Samuel Boadu, the previous coach who was fired by the team for underwhelming.
Slavko Matic has a two-year contract with The Phobians and is expected to win both the FA Cup and the Ghana Premier League.
Slavko Matic, speaking to the club’s media, said, “I want to thank our Chairman (Togbe Afede) and all the management for this opportunity. Africa is a big challenge and coming in a big club, we want to make a big success”
“We want to find the way to play good football and give the chance to all the players. Also, we want to take the trophies. As I say, Africa is a big challenge, I come in a very big club, from today is the best club in the World” he said.
The 46-year-old has extensive experience managing clubs in Europe and Asia and holds a UEFA Pro Licence. For the following two years, he will be in command of Hearts.
Following a disappointing start to the 2022–23 season, Matic parted ways with Bulgarian club Septemvri Sofia a few weeks ago, becoming unattached.
Since taking over in January 2022, Matic has led Septemvri in 29 games, winning 12, drawing 7, and losing 10.
Since last Tuesday, the former Serbian defender has been visiting Ghana for business and other purposes.
On Wednesday afternoon, when Hearts played a test match against a lower-tier club at their training facility, he was introduced to the group.
Napredak Krusevac, OFK Beograd, Novi Pavar, and FK Sloboda Uzice are Serbian teams that Matic has managed.
Additionally, he has coached in Qatar, where he oversaw Al-Shamal SC and Al Ahli Doha.
Matic previously held the position of head coach of Al-Nojoom FC in Saudi Arabia for a brief period of time.
He served as Nantong Zhiyun FC’s and Henan Jianye’s assistant coach while he was living in China.
