President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah has revealed that towards a comprehensive and strategic advancement of the various arms of the Ghana Olympic family, support for National Federations (NF’s) and athletes with potential, continues to receive timely boosts.

On Wednesday 15th February 2023, some outstanding athletes will receive their Olympic Scholarship at the Olympic House in Accra.

Upon assumption of office and up until 2022, the leadership of the GOC have been working tirelessly to submit various reports to the IOC, to justify Ghana’s request for funding, support, grants and scholarships for various Athletes and Federations.

Notwithstanding the challenges and some delays, the GOC President confirmed that the committee secured a number of highly prized support packages and grants for some national federations and athletes.

In this direction, 10 National Team Athletes have been awarded IOC Scholarships which will see each of them receiving an amount of $750.00 every month from January 2023 to the end of the Olympic Games in Paris in the summer of 2024.

Steps are also far advanced by the GOC to secure ANOCA Scholarship for an additional 5 athletes from Ghana.

A continental Athlete Support grant of $100,000.00 spread over 2022, 2023 and 2024 has also been approved for Ghana and the first tranche of $40,000.00 for 2022 has been allocated to Judo, Swimming, Golf, Weightlifting and Handball.

Mr Nunoo Mensah reiterated the team effort that has gone into securing the Scholarship.

“It is a process and sometimes it can be extremely arduous but the GOC executives and board will continue to work even harder for more”.

More good news is the confirmation of the second tranche in 2023 support allocations which will go to Fencing, Athletics and two other Federations who will have activities in 2023 and apply accordingly.

Additional 2023 tranche will go to Basketball, Triathlon and Badminton, while that of 2024 will be given to federations who will apply and have not yet accessed any earlier funding.
