The Black Princesses of Ghana kicked off the WAFU Zone B U20 championship to a great start after a convincing 3-0 win over their Benin counterparts at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Ghana began the game on the front foot, bombarding the defense of the Beninoises, hardly giving them a space to breathe.
The Princesses finally broke the deadlock after Faith Ladies’ Maverick Maafia Nyame scored in the 35th minute to take into half time.
The second half began just as the first half with the Princesses dominating possession play.
Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League’s Helen Alormenu of Essiam Socrates nearly doubled Ghana’s lead after Wasima laid an accurate cross from the left to her but she headed it above the post in the 58th minute.
Mary Amponsah of Ampem Darkoa Ladies extended Ghana’s lead three minutes later with her first touch of the game after replacing Faiza Seidu.
Captain Stella Nyamekye’s well-executed free-kick goal proved to be the final nail to the coffin of the Beninoises.
Ghana will face the Ivory Coast in their next Group A fixture. On Sunday, May 21, Nigeria will take on Niger at 3 pm before Burkina Faso face Togo at 6 pm. All matches will be LIVE on Max TV.
