The pride of Bono, Ampem Darkoa Ladies, have successfully defended their title at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex after beating rivals Hasaacas Ladies 5-4 on penalties.
Black Queens striker Doris Boaduwaa headed in Firdaus Yakubu’s corner on the hour mark to give the ladies from Sekondi a well-deserved goal.
Going behind forced Ampem Darkoa to come out fighting and managed to grab a late equalizer as Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah snuck in from the back to shoot the ball past Grace Banwaa in the post after Hasaacas Ladies’ captain, Linda Eshun failed to clear the ball at the edge of the box.
The match went into a penalty shootout as both teams couldn’t find a winner after 30 minutes of extra time with the tie locked at one apiece.
Comfort Yeboah stepped up to convert the first penalty for Ampem Darkoa before Faustina Nyam Aidoo equalized for Hasaacas Ladies. Success’ penalty miss proved costly for Hasaacas as the hero of the day for Ampem Darkoa, Ophelia Amponsah held her nerve to slot in the winning penalty to ensure her side retains the trophy.
