Dr. Tony Aubynn, the chairman of the Black Stars management committee, has pleaded with the people not to blame unpaid incentives for Ghana’s exit from the 2022 African Nations Tournament (CHAN).
On January 28, 2023, in the Miloud Hadefi stadium, the Black Galaxies of Ghana were eliminated from the competition after losing to Niger 2-0 in the quarterfinals.
Dr. Tony Aubynn said that the players were not due before the match against Niger, despite the fact that many people blamed the loss on unpaid allowances and incentives.
“Absolutely nothing like that at all happened; all their money and per diems had been paid,” he told Graphic Sports in an interview.
The country will need to concentrate on recovering from this year’s event in order to have more success in the future, he continued, so the elimination is not the end.
“We need to pick up the pieces, redesign, and rebuild. Let’s not forget that this is football, sometimes your worst comes when you really need your best.”
“But it’s not doom and gloom. We need to rebuild this team and reinforce it with new players to be identified from the league. We have no option”, he explained.
