The Local Organizing Committee for the 2023 African Games is looking to procure 332 vehicles to satisfy the transportation needs of participants for the upcoming event.
Ghana will procure 29 Land Cruisers, 106 Saloon Cars, 26 minibuses, 55 buses, 78 wagons, 30 Ayalolo buses, 3 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado’s, and 5 trucks for the three-week event, according to the LOC’s transport management handbook.
The LOC had reportedly budgeted US$48 million (GHS602 million) as “operational expenses,” six times Parliament’s approved GHS100 million, as revealed by Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu.
A sponsorship-seeking document was sent to the Chief Executive Officer of Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), which does not actually state the estimated costs of the needed vehicles.
However, a separate document had the estimated budget for the tournament sent to BOST and was signed by the Chairman of the LOC, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu Asare, while already receiving US$500,000 from one of the companies approached for sponsorship.
