Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the chairman of Ghana’s beach soccer committee, has appealed with football fans to support Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association, in his efforts to elevate football in Ghana.
Though he chastised the FA for failing to learn from the shortcomings of AFCON 2021 in Cameroon, the former BBC journalist and current Head of Sports threw his support behind the FA president, asking what more could be done to help him succeed with the Black Stars.
“We are in a crisis, but some are saying we aren’t. And you see, one thing about mediocrity is that it is good to fail, learn, recover, and do better. The Ivorians showed it at a tournament. They had a very short time to do that. We failed in Cameroon. We were supposed to recover and learn. We didn’t. We failed again.

That does not mean we should dissolve the FA and sack Kurt Okraku. We can’t even sack him. The stakeholders in football must see there’s a problem. Are we helping Kurt enough? If we aren’t, what more can we give Kurt Okraku to succeed? Let’s remove Kurt from the picture and ask, What more can we give the GFA to succeed?” He asked on max.com.gh.
Despite the achievements of Ghana’s women’s national teams, it is not difficult to observe the challenges faced by the Black Stars and the sport in general. Should Yaw’s mentioned support be limited to financial gain? The FA president’s entourage’s caliber of people may also play a role. It may also be Kurt and the playing body receiving emotional support. Whatever the issue, we need to resolve it so that Ghanaian football may progress.
