Canelo Stops Plant in the 11th round via TKO to become the new undisputed super middleweight champion
The much anticipated bout saw all four (WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF) belts on the line where Canelo held WBA,WBC,WBO with Plant; IBF.
Caleb Plant showed glimpses of why he’s considered as one of the best in the Super Middleweight division. His jab, swift movement and knowing when to get out of danger was efficient in the early rounds.
Plant’s slick movements saw Canelo find it difficult to connect clean as the fight grows on.
By the 10th round, Plant was fatigue; his jab had ceased to be visible and can’t get through to Canelo’s defence.
In the 11th round, saw Canelo starting strong with a left hook which connected clean on the chin of Plant, then followed it up with a right uppercut and another left hook which saw Plant hitting the canvas.
Although Plant got up feeling he could continue, his face looked worrying and legs were wobbling. He had not recovered fully from those punches from Canelo. Canelo sensed it and rushed on to attack to finish the fight with one minute and five seconds of the round remaining.
After the fight, both fighters were seen hugging each other, showing beautiful respect and great sportsmanship.
The win for Canelo means he becomes the first Mexican and only the sixth fighter to hold all four belts from separate governing bodies at the same time since 1988.
Canelo said: ” “It hasn’t been easy to get to this point,” and he’s happy to be among the six undisputed fighters in the world.
