Boxing lovers and fans stormed the Bukom Boxing Arena on Boxing Day 2023 for the penultimate night of season two of the only boxing league in Africa, the Ghana Professional Boxing League.
The spectators packed at the Bukom Boxing Arena, and viewers around the world witnessed, debatably, three of the best bouts so far this season.
Out of the eight bouts billed for the night, the first five ended in somewhat disappointing early knockouts, while the last three would be inked in the minds of anyone who watched at the arena and live on Max TV Ghana online.
Africanus Neequaye battled Dana Kofi of Fit Square Gym in a light-weight contest over six rounds. Africanus, a clear favorite in the early stages of the bout, was quite taken aback by the quick movements of Kofi.
Fighting on the cards of Akotoku Gym, Africanus delivered and produced some exciting displays despite being taken to the full distance by Kofi, as the judges’ unanimous decision earned him the win.
In a super welterweight contest over six rounds, the undefeated Derrick Quaye came toe-to-toe with Eric Asante of the Charles Quartey Boxing Foundation. What a fight it was! Both boxers are superb in their own right.
Asante failed to capitalize on his height advantage over Quaye, as he lost almost all the rounds to his quick-thinking opponent, who remains undefeated this season.
The biggest bout of the night was a bantamweight contest between Bismark Saah of the Ghana Armed Forces and Isaac Odartey Lamptey of the Ghana Prisons Service.
Two excellent boxers came face-to-face, but one triumphed! Guess who? You may have guessed correctly. Bismark Saah outclassed his fellow security services’ opponent despite suffering a cut to the right eye and feeling discomfort in his power-left hand.
The final fight night on Saturday, January 6, 2023, promises to be an unmissable event as the best boxer and gym emerge at the end of it.
