Germany’s footballers are set to don Nike jerseys starting in 2027, marking the end of a decades-long partnership with Adidas, during which the homegrown brand’s three stripes became synonymous with on-pitch success.
The collaboration between Adidas and the German national football team dates back to the 1950s, coinciding with the team’s first World Cup triumph. Under a deal with the German Football Association (DFB) extending through 2034, the Nike “swoosh” will replace the Adidas logo on the German shirt from 2027. DFB chief executive Holger Blask stated that Nike’s offer was “by far the best financial offer” available.
Blask also highlighted Nike’s commitment to promoting amateur sport and sustainable development in women’s football in Germany. The announcement, made just months before the start of Euro 2024 championships in Germany, was described as standard timing by Blask.
The kit change represents a significant shift for Adidas, which has encountered mounting challenges recently. The German sportswear group acknowledged being informed by the DFB about the upcoming supplier change in 2027.
DFB president Bernd Neuendorf expressed the organization’s commitment to achieving joint success with Adidas before the transition. The German men’s team, led by coach Julian Nagelsmann, will establish their base for the tournament near Adidas’s headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria.
