The Ghana Football Association, in a bid to introduce Ghanaian football to the modern trends of the game and establish its own identity, launched the National Football Philosophy, which displays Ghana’s Football DNA, on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
Following the country’s failures at recent global and continental showpieces, the Kurt E.S. Okraku-led administration’s Technical Directorate launched a new coaching and playing philosophy.
This new philosophy, which embodies the “Agoro” football style adored by Ghanaians for generations, has already become evident at the youth level.
Head coach of the national under-20 side, Desmond Offei, lauded the philosophy that he applied during the 2023 African Games, where Ghana won gold while playing a scintillating, systematic style of football.
There are similarities in the style of play of the under-17 and under-20 sides; however, the true success of the new philosophy would be its reaction to the challenges on the field of play and the kind of players and coaches required for its implementation.
“If we do the development well, trophies will come automatically. It will be effortless.
The development is like building a house. When you get the foundation right, the rest becomes relatively easier,” said the head coach of Asante Kotoko, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, to Citi TV during an interview on the FA’s philosophy in July 2023.
Ghanaian football fans must bear in mind that the long-term goal of the youth levels is merely for development with the DNA embedded in them. Winning trophies and earning qualification for relevant global and continental championships would be the fruits reaped.
Laryea Kingston has received plaudits for his boys (under 17) performances on the field, yet he insisted his style of coaching, which he claims is “transitional,” fuses so well with the football DNA.
Ghana aims to follow in the footsteps of elite football countries such as Spain, Germany, England, and Brazil, to name a few, that have, over the years, trusted in their respective philosophies, which have brought them so much success.
