Fabio Gama, a Brazilian midfielder, has confessed that he utilized his wits to help Asante Kotoko earn a penalty against Hearts of Oak on matchday 24 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) .
In the 16th minute of the Super Clash against Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko was given a penalty, which Cameroonian forward Franck Etouga converted in to give Kotoko their first home win over Hearts of Oak in around 5 matches.
While many football fans feel that referee Kennedy Paddy’s penalty judgment was contentious and soft, Fabio Gama believes that he should be commended for using his intellect to win the penalty.
A journalist asked the Brazilian during the post-match interview that, “For the penalty decision it looked very soft from where I was standing…Is it something you learn at training that when I am going to the game, I have to be soft?”
Fabio Gama, however, responded and said, “These are what I call intelligence. The guy just told me a foul is a foul.”
Before Gama’s reaction, David Obeng Nyarko, Kotoko’s communications director, whispered to the Brazilian to justify the choice.
Meanwhile, Accra Hearts of Oak have written to the Ghana Football Association to express their displeasure with referee Kennedy Paddy’s conduct in their defeat against Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium on April 10, 2022.
