The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) says the power outages that occurred on Friday July 7, 2023 was as a result of shortfall in gas supply from Atuabo Gas and West Africa Gas pipeline (WAPCo).
According to GRIDCo, there is deficit in thermal power generation due to limited gas supply from Atuabo Gas Processing and the West Africa Gas pipeline (WAPCo).
The outage comes on the back of threats by Independent Power Producers (IPP) to pull the plugs of the power grid following the huge debt owed them by the government.
Government subsequently got them to rescind the decision.
“This has created a supply gab of 650MW at peak time which will affect consumers in some parts of the country,” the Corporate Communications of GRIDCo explained in a press release.
