Renowned actress Gloria Sarfo has disclosed that she was constantly denied roles in some intriguing movies due to her appearance in “Efiewura,” a series that aired on national television.
According to her, various producers tagged her as an actress good for local-dialect movie roles and kept sidelining her in English-speaking movies.
In a media interview, the famed actress indicated that the perception of many producers that she could not express herself in English affected her chances of being starred in prestigious movies.

She recounted that she was not even used as a headline actress in promos despite being the lead character in the movie.
“Before I used to get worried, I used to talk a lot. Before, I had a tag about the Efiewura I was doing, so people thought I couldn’t even express myself in the English language, so everything was about being a local actress because of Efiewura.”
“Someone actually told me that because of my active role in Efiewura, I may not be able to feature as a wealthy man’s daughter in any glamour movie,” she said.
Contrary to perception, Gloria stated that it was her vibrancy in Twi language speaking in movies that earned her the Best Supporting Actress award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) in March 2020.

She expressed gratitude to the filmmaker, Shirley Frimpong Manso, for believing in her and featuring her in Perfect Picture, which turned around her story.
Although Gloria did not perceive it as a bad thing to be tagged with a consistent role one plays in a movie, she did not find the negativity that comes with it amusing.
