German Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart U-12 side are expected in Ghana from February 8–15, 2024, under the theme “Caring for the Roots.”.
This commendable project, “Caring for the Roots,” takes place in a small fishing village in Kokrobite, Ghana, upon arrival, and the purpose of the project is to connect children from Europe with children in Africa through a social project.
As part of the activities, building an aquaponics center using plastic bottles to aid a sustainable approach to agriculture combines aquaculture (raising fish) with hydroponics (growing plants in water).
Building a solar system for the learning center: This will provide renewable energy to support the educational activities in the center.
As part of the fundraising, each player on the U-12 team has written a business plan to independently earn 350 euros for the project.
Additionally, the group has supported and carried out activities of the VfB Foundation to generate additional income for the project.
By engaging in these activities, the VfB Stuttgart U12 team not only contributes to the development of the community in Kokrobite but also learns valuable lessons about social responsibility, teamwork, and global citizenship.
This project exemplifies the positive impact sports can have beyond the field, fostering empathy, cultural understanding, and sustainable practices.
