Dr. Prosper Nartey Ogum, the head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, is pleased with his team’s performance against the West African Football Academy (WAFA).
Asante Kotoko won 1-0 against WAFA, Prosper Nartey’s former team before joining Asante Kotoko, following two straight defeats to RTU and Legon Cities.
According to the former University of Cape Coast lecturer, he is happy for Kotoko’s victory but disappointed that his previous club WAFA lost and is now in danger of relegation.
“I’m happy we won. We are coming from a backdrop of two losses: RTU, Legon Cities but if you look at the defeat, it’s sending the team [WAFA] that made me who I am in coaching down the relegation zone so I have mixed feelings but I’m a professional.”
WAFA were deep in the relegation zone before the match and needed all three points against Asante Kotoko to escape the relegation zone, however they lost despite having played one more game than their relegation opponents with time running out.
On Saturday afternoon, the reds defeated WAFA for the first time at Sogakope Park.
Frank Mbella Etouga, the typical suspect, scored the game’s sole goal in the second half to give the league leaders the win.
After 27 games, Kotoko has a 10-point lead over second-placed Bechem United, who play on Sunday, while WAFA are in 17th place with 26 points, three points away of relegation.
