Mrs. Leanier Afiyo Obo Addy, the first female member of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Committee, has clarified some erroneous public perceptions that women’s football is in competition with men’s football.
According to Leanier Addy , the women’s game thrived on both sides, and that it requires both male and female support to develop.
Speaking in an interview Leanier Addy said that asking for equal support does not mean they are in competition with the men’s game.
When it comes to finding support for female teams, she says it’s difficult and frustrating.
The first Female Executive Committee Member of the GFA said “Sometimes I have to move ‘heaven through hell” to get something less than what the team required to chalk success.”
This, she said, was hindering the development of the female game, and she demanded a clear policy targeted at boosting player development, basic infrastructure, and the ability of women to handle the fundamentals of the game, such as female coaches and referees.
