Addressing stakeholders at the Africa Cinema Summit, the president noted that African stories were gradually taking back seats and expressed an urgent need for producers to generate stories that could relate to the people.
He said storytelling holds a pivotal role in film production to teach moral lessons and educate the people; therefore, filmmakers should not look for external validation by promoting other cultures at the detriment of their own.
President Akufo-Addo indicated that Africa had a long-standing culture dating back many centuries and had lots of untold stories, but its filmmakers have shied away from telling authentic African stories with an agenda to meet global standards.
He said the time has come for African filmmakers to correct their mistakes and produce stories that depict historical events and the cultural heritage of Africa to promote African stories to foreign countries.
