Diana Armstrong, a woman from Minnesota in the United States of America, has grown her fingernails for over 27 years to remind herself of the day her daughter died from her sleep.
Narrating her ordeal to Guinness World Records after breaking the record for the longest fingernails on a pair of hands (female) and the longest fingernails on a pair of hands ever (female), she said the day her daughter died was the worst day of her life.

Diana recalled that on that faithful day, she started her day as normal and even ordered her children to get out of bed while she went to the grocery store to get food for her family.
While she was shopping, she received a panicked call from her youngest daughter, who informed her that her 16-year-old daughter, Latisha, died in her sleep from an asthma attack.
“At the store, my baby daughter called me and told me, ‘Ma, Tisha won’t wake up. That was the worst day of my life,” she recalled.
After that incident, Diana said she was heavily affected by the passing of her daughter, so she decided to grow her nails to remind her of Latisha.

Measuring 1,306.58 cm (42 ft 10.4 in) as of March 13, 2022, the combined length of Diana’s fingernails was longer than a standard yellow school bus.
Her right thumbnail was the longest of all her nails, measuring 138.94 cm (4 ft 6.7 in). By comparison, her shortest nail (her left pinky fingernail) is 109.2 cm (3 ft 7 in) long.
Diana last cut her nails in 1997, but shortly after a tragic accident rocked her family, she vowed to never trim them again.
