Sheikh Ishmael Odum, an Islamic scholar, has revealed that in the month of Ramadan, couples could still make love only when they broke their fast at midnight.
However, the act cannot be repeated during the day when the fasting has commenced.

Speaking in an interview with Max Morning Dew in Accra on Monday, Sheikh noted that many Muslims, regardless of their marital status, would still be sexually active during the month of Ramadan; therefore, their laws were designed to resonate with married couples for them to bond during the month of Ramadan.
He said what was not allowed was rather tied to fasting hours.

“During the fast, sex is prohibited. Once fasting finishes for the day, those things considered haram in the daylight hours are once again allowed to resume until fasting recommences the following day,” Sheikh said.
Hugging and kissing are also believed to be allowed between spouses during daylight hours, as long as they do not lead to more than that.
According to Sheikh, mating during fasting hours was prohibited so that worshippers would not be distracted during daylight hours and for them to also build a healthy spiritual bond with their maker.

He said Ramadan was a month of spiritual training for the rest of the year, and a worshipper had to be holy and strong to endure their desires.
Those who flouted the law and mated with their spouse, he said, had consequences greater than the fasting itself.
“One daylight sex will mean you will have to fast for an extra two months. The husband must replace the fast for that day and fast for 60 consecutive days as punishment. The wife is only required to replace the fast of that day,” he said.
Sheikh therefore urged fellow Muslims to choose the safest side by sticking to their sex lives between dusk and dawn.
He maintained that Islam did not allow for extra-marital sexual relations, so during “this holy month,” non-marital sex technically should be avoided even more to avoid Allah’s wrath.
