Stanley Bobo Nwabali, the goalkeeper for the Super Eagles, received a warm and heroic welcome in his hometown of Rivers State, Nigeria, following his outstanding performance at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 held in Côte d’Ivoire.
Nwabali’s hometown, Egbema Kingdom in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State, celebrated his achievements with great enthusiasm.

Thousands of residents gathered to welcome Nwabali back to his hometown, where he began his football journey. He was received by the proprietor of his first Nigerian football club, Go Round FC, Bro Felix Obuah, who then led him to the ONELGA council headquarters, where dignitaries including the Chairman, Sir Vincent Job, were present. Sir Job announced a donation of N5 million and the naming of a street after Nwabali in the local government area.
Later, at the Nzeobi’s palace in Aggah-Egbema, HRM Eze Everestus Amuda conferred the chieftaincy title ‘Ugo Egbema 1 of Egbema Land’ on Nwabali, symbolizing his status as the Pride of Egbema. Eze Amuda praised Nwabali for his outstanding performance, particularly his penalty-saving heroics, which earned him admiration from Nigerians both at home and abroad.
A grand reception was held at the Community Primary School, Okwuzi, in Nwabali’s honor. Dignitaries including Sir Job, Chief Whip of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and Members of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Franklin Nwabochi, and Hon. Nkemjika Ezekwe, expressed their admiration and respect for Nwabali.
In an emotional interview, Nwabali expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support and respect shown to him by his community. He was deeply moved by the love and appreciation demonstrated by the crowd.
